Her first husband, Jim Elliot, was killed in 1956 while attempting to make missionary contact with the Auca people of eastern Ecuador. In the wake of grieving him, she wrote the path of loneliness that talks about the God shaped hole we all have in our souls. Marriage, friends, children or family are never going to fill that space entirely:
That is how God designed it. Intentional!
